Painting the town blue

A lot can happen in a week on a building site. And when you’re both working full time, keeping up with the pace can get pretty full on. There’s more and more decisions to make, constant checking of all the things we still need to do and of course, making sure there’s enough in the piggy bank to cover it all! On top of all that, it’s also important to try to enjoy the process too. Things can get a little stressful, so taking time out to enjoy the site and appreciate just how fab it is to be building our little pad makes everything feel better. Highlight of this stage? After months of worrying about our colour choices, the external wall colour went up this week… and we love it! Also, we’ll be nice and easy to find. Look out for the blue one!

Time for a ‘walk round’ with the electrician. Lots of pointing. Lots of chin scratching. Lots of ‘toilet’ talk. Thanks to the Smart Sparx team for being so ace and for putting up with my wandering attention span. At least Shane listens. I hope…

The external cladding went up this week too, which means… *drum roll* the Resene team were able to get started with the paint job. Very nervous about this one. Staring at an A4 piece of card for the best part of six months does not guarantee it will look good when applied to your dream home. Luckily for us, it did. Huge ‘phews’ all round. And another huge thanks to Resene and Karen Walker. Check out the range we chose from right here.

Tense times on site as the building inspector drops in. Turns out our moisture levels are too high (hate it when that happens). However thanks to our very resourceful family we managed to find some industrial de-humidifiers and heaters so we should be back on track for the re-inspection next week. Also, it would be very lovely if the rain would just stop for half an hour.

Fast forward a few days and the external painting is done. And we love, love, love. One colour choice down. Only five more to go… Next up? The deck!
